Watch: I am a CISM

The Certified Information Systems Auditor™ (CISA) is ISACA®’s cornerstone certification. The CISA® certification has been earned by more than 50,000 professionals since inception and is for the IS audit, control, assurance and/or security professional who wishes to set themselves apart from their peers. Since 1978, the CISA® certification has been renowned as the globally recognized achievement for those who control, monitor and assess an organization’s information technology and business systems.

The Certified Information Security Manager® (CISM®) certification is a unique management focused certification that has been earned by over 7,000 professionals since its introduction in 2003. Unlike other security certifications, CISM® is for the individual who manages, designs, oversees and assesses an enterprise’s information security program. CISM® defines the core competencies and international performance standards that those who have information security management responsibilities must master.

ISACA®’s new IT Governance certification is intended to recognize a wide range of professionals for their knowledge and application of IT governance principles and practices. It is designed for professionals who have management, advisory, or assurance responsibilities as defined by a “job practice” consisting of IT governance related tasks and knowledge. Earning this designation will enable professionals to respond to the growing business demand for a comprehensive IT governance program that defines responsibility and accountability across the entire enterprise.

Introduced in 2010, The Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control certification (CRISC), pronounced “see-risk,” is intended to recognize a wide range of IT and business professionals for their knowledge of enterprise risk and their ability to design, implement and maintain information system (IS) controls to mitigate such risk. CRISC is based on independent market research and input from thousands of subject matter experts from around the world as well as ISACA’s intellectual property including Risk IT and COBIT 4.1.

(New CPE Activity Added)

ISACA Credentialing Board recently approved mentoring as a qualifying CPE activity. ISACA certified professionals can now earn up to 10 hours annually for mentoring activities. Contributions to ISACA Credential Mentoring (10-hour annual limitation): These activities include mentoring efforts directly related to coaching, reviewing or assisting with CISA/CISM/CGEIT exam preparation or providing career guidance through the credentialing process either at the organizational, chapter or individual level. The mentoring activity must be an activity supporting a specific person in preparation for their ISACA exam or certification career decisions. One CPE hour is earned for each hour of assistance. Documentation should be in the form of letters or emails to/from the mentored individual or a Verification of Attendance Form (located in the CPE policy) provided by the mentored individual. At a minimum the verification documentation should include the name of the mentor, dates, times, the signature of the person mentored and a brief description of the type of assistance provided by the mentor.
